WORD PROBLEMS ON MULTIPLYING DECIMALS

Problem 1 :

Class 8A are going on a trip to a windmill.

windmill

The trip costs £3.70 each and there are 26 students in 8A. How much money should be collected?

Solution:

Given, each costs = £3.70

Number of students = 26

Total money = 26 × 3.70

= £96.2

Problem 2 :

Mr. Jenkins is building a fence for his garden. The fence costs £12.60 per metre to build. The fence is 5.3 metres long.

building

Work out the total cost of building the fence.

Solution:

The fence costs = £12.60 per metre

Total cost of building = 12.60 × 5.3

= £66.78

Problem 3 :

Calculate the area of this rectangle.

rectangle

Solution:

Given, length = 6.8 cm

Width = 2.7 cm

Area of rectangle = length × width

= 6.8 × 2.7

= 18.36 cm2

Problem 4 :

Here are the prices of some fruit in a shop.

fruits

Find the total cost of 1.2 kg of apples, 3.5 kg of oranges and 1.9kg of bananas.

Solution:

Total cost of 1.2 kg of apples, 3.5 kg of oranges and 1.9kg of bananas:

= 1.2(0.97) + 3.5(1.07) + 1.9(1.46)

= 1.164 + 3.745 + 2.774

= £7.683

Problem 5 :

Regan is paid £6.70 per hour. He works 8 hours in a week. Work out how much Regan should be paid.

Solution:

Regan paid = £6.70 per hour

Working hour =  8 hours

Total amount = 6.70 × 8

= £53.6

Regan paid is £53.6.

Problem 6 :

Calculate the output.

output

Solution:

3.8 × 7 = 26.6

So, the output is 26.6.

Problem 7 :

Calculate the area of the rectangle.

rectangle1

Solution:

Given, length = 19.4 cm

Width = 8 cm

Area of rectangle = length × width

= 19.4 × 8

= 155.2 cm2

Problem 8 :

A bottle of cola costs £1.29.

Calculate the total cost of 6 bottles of cola.

cola

Solution:
