Solution:

Given,

Jill had 3 full pans of brownies. Each pan made 10 brownies.

Total number of brownies = 3 × 10 = 30

=308×3=454=1114

Problem 2 :

Erin walked 3/5 miles each day for 8 days. On the 9th day, she walked 1 1/4 miles. How many total miles did Erin walk?

Solution:

Number of miles covered by Erin on one day = 3/4 miles

Number of miles covered on 8 days = 8 x (3/4)

Erin total walk=35×8+114=245+54=96+2520=12120=6120 miles

Problem 3 :

A jug of drinking water contained 1 2/3 gallons. If 5/7 gallon is drunk each day, how much water was left in the jig after 2 days?

Solution:

=123-2×57=53-107=35-3021=521 gallon

So, the water left in the jug after two days was 5/21.

Problem 4 :

Mia has 24 yards of ribbon. She gave 10 yards to her sister. Mia now wants to work on a project that requires 2 1/4 yards of ribbon per project. What is the greatest number of projects that Mia can complete with this ribbon?

Solution:

New Mia has ribbon is

24 - 10 = 14 yards

=14÷214=14×49=569=6.2

The greatest number of project is 6.

Problem 5 :

Paul spent 1/4 of his money on a food and another 3/10 of his money on soda. If he started with $5 how much of his  money is left?

Solution:

Amount spent for food = 1/4 of 5 ==> 5/4

Amount spent for soda = 3/10 of 5 ==> 3/2

Amount left over = 5 - (5/4 + 3/2)

= 5 - (5/4 + 6/4)

= 5 - (11/4)

= (20 - 11)/4

= 9/4

Problem 6 :

Sally has a piece of cloth. She used 1/3 of a foot of the cloth to make a pillow cover and another 4/7 of a foot of the cloth to make a tablecloth. If Sally started with 2 feet of cloth, how much cloth does she has remaining?

Solution:

As per given,

=13+47=7+1221=1921 feet

Sally used 19/21 fraction of cloth altogether for the making of pillow cover and table cloth.

Cloth remaining = 2 - (19/21)

= (42 - 19)/21

= 23/21

= 1  2/21

So, 1  2/21 feet part of the cloths are remaining.

Problem 7 :

A container is 1/3 full of water and 1/4 full of oil. What fraction of the container is empty?

Solution:

=1-13-14=23-14=8-312=512

Problem 8 :

Kathy had $10 and gave half of it to her brother. She then gave a third of the remaining amount to a friend. How much money will Kathy have left?

Solution:

She had $10 - $5 = $5

5 left after giving to her brother.

Next, she gave a third of the remaining $5 to her friend, which is $5 / 3 ≈ $1.67.

Kathy will have $5 - $1.67 ≈ $3.33 left.

Problem 9 :

Carl used 10 2/9 of an inch of string to tie a parcel and another 5 1/4 of an inch of string to tie a box, how much string is left if he started with 20 inches?

Solution:

=1029+514=10+5+29+14=15+1736=151736=20-151736=41736 inches

Problem 10 :

A box of chocolates includes 24 chocolates. If 1/4 contain nuts, how many chocolates do not contain nuts?

Solution:

Number of chocolates that do not contain nuts.

=1-14=34Number of chocolate with no nuts=34×24=18

18 chocolates do not contain nuts.

Problem 11:

You are eating 3/4 cup of ice cream, 1/8 cup of chocolate syrup, and one sixteenths cup of cherries. How many (total) cups is your dessert?

Solution:

=34+18+116LCM of 4,8 and 16=16=3×44×4+1×28×2+1×116×1=12+2+116=1516

So, we have 15/16 cups of dessert.

Problem 12 :

Today is a hot day. You fill a water bottle with 1 2/3 cups of ice, one and one half cups of ice, and 1/4 cup of Gatorade mixture. How many cups is your water bottle filled with?

Solution:

=123+112+14=53+32+14LCM of 3,2 and 4 is 12=2012+1812+312=4112=3512 cups

Problem 13 :

You find one half of a cake in the fridge. You give two-fifths of what remains, how much of cake is left?

Solution:

=12-25×12=12-15=5-210=310

Solution:

a)

=5023+3314+838=1523+1334+678LCM of 3,4 and 8 is 24=121624+79824+20124=221524

b)

=5023-3314=1523-1334LCM of 3 and 4 is 12=60812-39912=20912
