Solution :
Olivia sold 16 posters.
Penguins were pictured on 7 of the posters.
Pandas were on the rest.
So, 16 - 7
= 9
Therefore Olivia sold, 9 panda posters.
Problem 3 :
Stu packed 6 ceramic animals into each small box. How many boxes does he need for 54 ceramic animals.
Solution :
Each box will consists of 6 ceramic animals.
Number of animals to be packed = 54
Number of boxes required = 54/6
= 9
Therefore, 9 boxes he need for 54 ceramic animals.
Problem 4 :
Ryan sent 22 animal buttons to three cousins. Sue received twice as many buttons as Mike and 3 more than Jill. How many buttons did each receive ?
Solution :
Ryan sent 22 animal buttons to three cousins.
Let x be the number of buttons Mike has.
Sue receives = 2x
Number of buttons received by Sue and Mike = x + 2x
= 3x
Remaining number of buttons = 22 - 3x
Sue receives comparing with Jill = 22 - 3x + 3
= 25 - 3x
2x = 25 - 3x
2x + 3x = 25
5x = 25
x = 5
Problem 5 :
Lin wants to use 7 animal beads for each of 9 necklaces he is making for the zoo gift shop. How many animal beads will he need ?
Solution :
Lin wants to use animal beads is 7.
9 necklaces he is making for the zoo gift shop.
= 9 × 7
= 63
Therefore, 63 animal beads will he need.
Problem 6 :
Use the table
Max pays the sale price for 3 key chains, 1 toucan shirt, and 2 fish cards. How much money did he save ?
Solution :
Max pays the sale price for
1 key chain = $2
3 key chains = 2 × 3 = $6
1 toucan shirt = $10
1 toucan shirt = 10 × 1 = $10
1 fish cards = $4
2 fish cards = 4 × 2 = $8
= 6 + 10 + 8
= 24
He saves the money is $24.
Problem 7 :
Tina, Maya, and Olga need to collect 200 aluminum cans to win a recycling contest. Tina has collected 57 cans, Maya has collected 76 cans, and Olga has collected 64 cans. How many more cans do the girls still need to collect ?
Solution :
Tina, Maya, and Olga need to collect the aluminum cans is 200.
Tina collect the can = 57
Maya collect the can = 76
Olga collect the can = 64
= 57 + 76 + 64
= 197
= 200 – 197
= 3
So, the girls needs to collect 3 cans.
Problem 8 :
Pat’s bank holds dimes and quarters. There are 4 more dimes than quarters in the bank. The value of all the coins is $2.85. How many quarters are in Pat’s bank?
Solution :
Let x be the number of quarters in the bank.
Number of dimes = x + 4
0.25 x + 0.10(x + 4) = 2.85
0.25x + 0.10x + 0.40 = 2.85
0.35x = 2.85 - 0.40
0.35x = 2.45
x = 2.45/0.35
x = 7
7 quarters are there.
