FINDING THE MISSING SIDES OF A RIGHT TRIANGLE

The closed shape which is created by three sides is called triangle. In a triangle, one of the angle measure will be 90 degree.

In every right triangle, there must be a hypotenuse. The side which is opposite to 90 degree is called hypotenuse.

pythagorean

The longest side will be hypotenuse for every right triangle. Every right triangle will satisfy the "Pythagorean theorem"

c2 = a2 + b2

Find the measure of missing side in the following tri  angles given below.

Problem 1 :

Find-missing-side-in-right-triangle-worksheet-q1

Solution :

By observing the figure,

Hypotenuse = AB

 AB2 = AC2 + BC2

132 = 122 + BC2

169 - 144 = BC2

BC2 =  25

BC = √25

BC = 5

So, the missing side BC is 5.

Problem 2 :

Find-missing-side-in-right-triangle-worksheet-q2

Solution :

By observing the figure,

Hypotenuse = AB

 AB2 = AC2 + BC2

AB2 = 132 + 42

AB2 = 169 + 16

AB2 =  175

AB = √175

AB = 13.60

So, the missing side AB is 13.60.

Problem 3 :

Find-missing-side-in-right-triangle-worksheet-q3

Solution :

By observing the figure,

Hypotenuse = AB

 BC2 + AC2 = AB2

BC2 + 62 = 92

BC2 + 36 = 81

BC2 =  81 - 36

BC2 = 45

BC = √45

BC = 6.71

So, the missing side BC is 6.71.

Problem 4 :

Find-missing-side-in-right-triangle-worksheet-q4

Solution :

By observing the figure,

Hypotenuse = AB

 BC2 + AC2 = AB2

11.92 + 102 = AB2

141.61 + 100 = AB2

AB2 =  241.61

AB = √241.61

AB = 15.54

So, the missing side AB is 15.54.

Problem 5 :

Find-missing-side-in-right-triangle-worksheet-q5

Solution :

By observing the figure,

Hypotenuse = AB

 AB2 = AC2 + BC2

AB2 = (7.7)2 + (14)2

AB2 = 59.29 + 196

AB2 =  255.29

AB = √255.29

AB = 15.98

So, the missing side AB is 15.98.

Problem 6 :

Find-missing-side-in-right-triangle-worksheet-q6

Solution :

By observing the figure,

Hypotenuse = AB

AB2 = AC2 + BC2

52 = AC2 + 42

25 = AC2 + 16

AC2 = 25 - 16

AC2 = 9

AC = √9

AC = 3

So, the missing side AC is 3.

Problem 7 :

Find-missing-side-in-right-triangle-worksheet-q7

Solution :

By observing the figure,

Hypotenuse = AB

 AB2 = AC2 + BC2

112 = AC2 + (4.4)2

121 = AC2 + 19.36

AC2 = 121 - 19.36

AC2 = 101.64

AC = √101.64

AC = 10.08

So, the missing side AC is 10.08.

Problem 8 :

Find-missing-side-in-right-triangle-worksheet-q8

Solution :

By observing the figure,

Hypotenuse = AB

 AB2 = AC2 + BC2

AB2 = 32 + 32

AB2 = 9 + 9

AB2 = 18

AB = √18

AB = 4.24

So, the missing side AB is 4.24.
