COUNT THE UNIT CUBES AND FIND THE VOLUME OF EACH RECTANGULAR PRISM

What is unit cube ?

Unit cube is a cube with the side length of 1 unit.

A cube is a three-dimensional square. It is an object with all edges equal in size. A cube has 12 edges. Thus, a unit cube has 12 edges, all measuring 1 unit

The picture will explain how to find the number of unit cubes in the rectangular prism and how we find volume.

Volume of rectangular prism = length x width x height

Work out the volume of the following solids :

Problem 1 :

Solution :

Volume v = l × w × h

= 5 × 5 × 5

= 125 units cube

Problem 2 :

Solution :

Volume v = l × w × h

= 2 × 2 × 2

= 8 units cube

Problem 3 :

Solution :

Volume v = l × w × h

= 3 × 3 × 3

= 27 units cube

Problem 4 :

Solution :

Volume v = l × w × h

= 5 × 4 × 5

= 100 units cube

Problem 5 :

Solution :

Volume v = l × w × h

= 5 × 2 × 3

= 30 units cube

Problem 6 :

Solution :

Volume v = l × w × h

= 3 × 4 × 5

= 60 units cube
