COMPLETE THE TABLE OF VALUES FOR THE FUNCTION

Complete each table of values for the given values of x.

Problem 1 :

y = x + 3

Solution :

put x = -1

y = -1 + 3

y = 2

put x = 0

y = 0 + 3

y = 3

put x = 1

y = 1 + 3

y = 4

put x = 2

y = 2 + 3

y = 5

put x = 3

y = 3 + 3

y = 6

So, the values of y is 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6.

Problem 2 :

y = 3

Solution :

x = -1

y = 3

x = 0

y = 3

x = 1

y = 3

x = 2

y = 3

x = 3

y = 3

Problem 3 :

y = (1/2)x - 1

Solution :

put x = -1

y = (1/2) × -1 – 1

= (-1/2) – 1

= (-1 – 2)/2

= -3/2

put x = 0

  y = (1/2) × 0 – 1

= -1

put x = 1

y = (1/2) × 1 – 1

= 1/2 – 1

= (1 – 2)/2

= -1/2

put x = 2

y = (1/2) × 2 – 1

= 2/2 – 1

= (2 – 2)/2

= 0

put x = 3

y = (1/2) × 3 – 1

= 3/2 – 1

= (3 – 2)/2

= 1/2

So, the values of y is -3/2, -1, -1/2, 0 and 1/2.

Problem 4 :

y = 2x - 4

Solution :

y = 2x - 4

put x = -1

y = 2(-1) – 4

= -2 – 4

= -6

put x = 0

y = 2(0) – 4

= 0 – 4

= -4

put x = 1

y = 2(1) – 4

= 2 – 4

= -2

put x = 2

y = 2(2) – 4

= 4 – 4

= 0

put x = 3

y = 2(3) – 4

= 6 – 4

= 2

So, the values of y is -6, -4, -2, 0 and 2.

Problem 5 :

y = (-1/2)x

Solution :

y = (-1/2)x

put x = -1

y = (-1/2) × -1

= 1/2

put x = 0

  y = (-1/2) × 0

= 0

put x = 1

y = (-1/2) × 1

= -1/2

put x = 1

y = (-1/2) × 1

= -1/2

put x = 2

y = (-1/2) × 2

= -2/2

= -1

put x = 3

y = (-1/2) × 3

= -3/2

So, the values of y is1/2, 0, -1/2, -1 and -3/2.

Problem 6 :

y = -2x + 1

Solution :

y = -2x + 1

put x = -1

y = -2(-1) + 1

= 2 + 1

= 3

put x = 0

y = -2(0) + 1

= 0 + 1

= 1

put x = 1

y = -2(1) + 1

= -2 + 1

= -1

put x = 2

y = -2(2) + 1

= -4 + 1

= -3

put x = 3

y = -2(3) + 1

= -6 + 1

= -5

So, the values of y is 3, 1, -1, -3 and -5.

Problem 7 :

y = x - 1

Solution :

y = x - 1

put x = -1

y = -1 – 1

y = -2

put x = 0

y = 0 – 1

y = -1

put x = 1

y = 1 – 1

y = 0

put x = 2

y = 2 – 1

y = 1

put x = 3

y = 3 – 1

y = 2

So, the values of y is -2, -1, 0, 1 and 2.

Problem 8 :

2x – y = 4

Solution :

2x – y = 4

put x = -1

2(-1) – y = 4

-2 – y = 4

-y = 4 + 2

y = -6

put x = 0

2(0) – y = 4

-y = 4

y = -4

put x = 1

2(1) – y = 4

2 – y = 4

-y = 4 – 2

y = -2

put x = 2

2(2) – y = 4

4 – y = 4

-y = 4 – 4

y = 0

put x = 3

2(3) – y = 4

6 – y = 4

-y = 4 – 6

y = 2

So, the values of y is -6, -4, -2, 0 and 2.

Problem 9 :

x = 7

Solution :

x = 7

For all values of y, we will get x as 7.

So, the points are (7, -1), (7, 0) (7, 1) (7, 2) and (7, 3).

Problem 10 :

x + y = -1

Solution :

x + y = -1

put x = -1

-1 + y = -1

y = -1 + 1

y = 0

put x = 0

0 + y = -1

y = -1 - 0

y = -1

put x = 1

1 + y = -1

y = -1 - 1

y = -2

put x = 2

2 + y = -1

y = -1 - 2

y = -3

put x = 3

3 + y = -1

y = -1 - 3

y = -4

So, the values of y is 0, -1, -2, -3 and -4.
