Length of Cartila's chain = 60 inches

Length of Sam's chain = 4 feet

Comparing the length's can be done easily, when converting both into the same unit. Converting feet into inches is easy.

Multiplying by 4 on both sides, we get

4 feet = 48 inches

Cartila's chain       Sam's chain

60 inches       >       48 inches

Cartila's chain is longer than Sam.

Problem 11 :

Gina is 59 inches tall. Is she more or less than 5 feet ?

Solution :

Height of Gins = 59 inches

Let us convert 5 feet into inches 

1 feet = 12 inches 

Multiplying by 5 on both sides.

5 feet = 5 (12)

= 60 inches

So, Gina's height is lesser than 5 feet.

Problem 12 :

Mike's paper air plane flew 130 inches. He said his plane flew over 11 feet. Is he correct ? Explain

Solution :

To say whether he is correct or not, we have to convert them into the same unit. Converting feet into inches ins easy.

1 feet = 12 inches

Multiplying by 11 on both sides

11 feet = 132 inches

He is saying that the paper air plane flew 130 inches which is lesser than 132. So, he is incorrect.

Problem 13 :

James is 5 feet tall. Caroline is 53 inches tall. Who is taller ?

Solution :

Height of James = 5 feet

Height of Caroline = 53 inches.

To make the comparison easier, let us convert them into the same unit. Converting feet to inches is easy.

1 feet = 12 inches 

5 feet = 60 inches.

60 inches > 53 inches

So, James is taller.

Problem 14 :

Arnold is 4 feet six inches tall. How many inches tall is Arnold ?

Solution :

Height of Arnold = 4 feet six inches

Converting them into inches,

1 feet = 12 inches

4 feet = 4(12) inches

4 feet = 48 inches

4 feet six inches = (48 + 6) inches

= 54 inches

So, Arnold is 54 inches tall.

Problem 15 :

Peter measured the width of his refrigerator, it was 32 inches wide. Is the fridge more or less than three feet wide ?

Solution :

3 feet = ? inches

1 feet = 12 inches

3 feet = 36 inches

The width of the refrigerator is 32 inches wide, which is lees than 3 feet.
